    Position

Laboratory Head at the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology and the School of Molecular and Microbial Sciences at the University of Queensland.

    Qualifications

    • ARC Postdoctoral Fellowship (2005) Queensland University of Technology.
    • Postdoctoral research (2000-02) Imperial College London working with Prof. Tony Barrett.
    • PhD (2001) Queensland University of Technology working with Professor Steven Bottle.

    Expertise

    • Nitroxide-containing macrocycles (dyes) as photosensitisers, imaging agents and building blocks for functional molecular materials.

    Key Areas of Research

Porphyrinic macrocycles (phthalocyanines and porphyrazines) which feature peripheral nitroxide-containing rings as:

    • Redox-tuneable photosensitisers for the Photodynamic Therapy of malignant and non-malignant proliferative diseases.
    • Components for the synthesis of structurally defined polymer-chromophore hybrids which are evaluated as photoactive polymer-based materials.
    • Multi-functional imaging agents (fluorescence imaging, EPRI, MRI etc) and EPR oximetry probes.
